FAQs
What is Narcolepsy?
Narcolepsy is a chronic neurologic disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness. This makes Toast fall asleep at random times throughout his day. These sleeping episodes are usually triggered in more stimulating or exciting moments like dinner time, mom coming home, or even going to the bathroom. Episodes can last anywhere from seconds to minutes before Toast pops right back up like nothing happened. Narcolepsy is an incurable, lifelong disorder treated with stimulant medication.
What is Cataplexy?
Cataplexy is described as sudden and brief episodes of muscle weakness and/or involuntary muscle movement. You may notice these symptoms in Toast’s videos, when he gets a little wobbly before falling asleep. Like narcolepsy, cataplexy is often triggered by strong emotions or stimulating events.
Is Toast in pain?
Nope! Toast may fall asleep sometimes but to him, he is just like any other pup. Thankfully, narcolepsy and cataplexy are not known precursors to any other health complications. Toast is completely pain free, and living a happy, healthy, narcoleptic life!
Does Toast sleep through the night?
Yes! Toast takes a lot of breaks during the day, but he still needs rest just like the rest of us. Sleeping through the night is not typically an issue for Toast as narcoleptic sleep episodes aren’t generally considered restful. A narcolepsy episode is kind of like a ‘sleep attack’, coming on very suddenly and briefly, usually leaving Toast in a drowsy state for a few minutes.
